“Rehabilitation Worker Store Internship” program

Care, Inclusion, and Consideration” with a “People-Centered Approach” - is the shared service philosophy of Home Market and St. James’ Settlement Rehabilitation Service. To put this philosophy into practice, we collaborated to host a four-day “Rehabilitation Worker Store Internship” program.

The internship was held at Home Market’s store in Ap Lei Chau, where Store Manager Buddy Xiong guided the trainees. He helped them master various store operations, including product display, inventory management, customer service, and understanding the overall company operations.

Throughout the internship, the rehabilitation trainees demonstrated strong enthusiasm and learning capabilities. They neatly organized various items, such as canned goods, soy sauce, condiments, tissues, and paper towels, making it easy for customers to find, access, and purchase products. Buddy praised the trainees for their quick learning and diligence, remarking on their excellent performance. Well done, Xiong!

This internship not only enhanced the trainees’ practical skills but also deepened their understanding of the work environment and responsibilities. It significantly boosted their confidence and preparedness for entering the workforce. This cross-organizational collaboration model helps create more employment opportunities for people with disabilities, promoting better integration into both professional and social spheres.
